Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir) | October 29, 2024 10:11:43 AM IST
The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Monday launched a Public Grievance Cell for passport verification cases at its headquarters in Srinagar. This initiative aims to improve communication between the public and the police, as directed by the Lieutenant Governor.

Additional Director General of Police of CID Jammu and Kashmir, Nitish Kumar, underlined the importance of addressing public concerns more efficiently. Speaking to ANI, He said, "The LG had said that we have to improve the interface between the public and police. People's grievances should be redressed timely."

Previously, people faced challenges in bringing their issues, especially related to verification, to the authorities. However, the new grievance cell has been established to streamline this process. A similar cell will also be set up in Jamui.

"For any issues, whether related to passport verification or service verification, individuals can come here. They will receive complete information, and we will resolve many of the issues that often get overlooked in our system, which have been causing them difficulties. This is a positive initiative", Kumar told ANI.

Meanwhile, on the same day, the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha, held a review meeting to discuss the security situation and development aspects of all districts in the Kashmir Division. The meeting took place in Srinagar and was attended by Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat, Principal Secretary for Home Chandraker Bharti, and other senior officials.

This previous review meeting was held on October 23 after the Ganderbal terror attack, which resulted in the deaths of a doctor, a designer, and five construction workers. In response, LG Sinha held the meeting on the same day, directing the police to enhance security around key infrastructure projects and construction camps in the Union Territory. He stressed the importance of conducting a security audit of these projects, implementing round-the-clock checkpoints at strategic locations, increasing night patrols, and improving area control.

"The police must ensure a robust security and intelligence grid and intensified, well-planned joint operations with the army and other security agencies to eliminate terrorism," Sinha stated.

The meeting was attended by senior officials, including Additional Director General of Police (Law & Order) Vijay Kumar and Inspector General of Police (Kashmir) Vidhi Kumar Birdi.

In the aftermath of the terror attack, LG Sinha announced financial support for the victims' families. He stated that Rs 6 lakh would be given to the next of kin of each deceased civilian, along with an immediate sum of Rs 15 lakh provided by the APCO Infratech company. An ex-gratia amount of Rs 2 lakh was also announced for all those injured.

On October 22, Sinha visited Gagangir to interact with officers and workers from the Project Implementing Agency and to review security measures at the project site. During his visit, he chaired another meeting with officials from the police, civil administration, and various security agencies.

Sinha has called for strict action against the perpetrators of terrorism and anyone who aids them, stating, "The entire terror ecosystem, including perpetrators and those aiding and abetting terrorists, requires to be completely dismantled."(ANI)
