Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and Maharashtra Legislative Assembly Speaker Rahul Narwekar on Monday expressed confidence that people will elect him again as an MLA with a huge margin from south Mumbai's Colaba assembly constituency.

Reacting to the seat-sharing tussle in the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), the BJP leader said that the opposition alliance was unnatural as there is no commonality among the parties that are part of the alliance. The alliance is only made for self-serving reasons and this is why it will not hold.

"MVA alliance will not hold. The reason is that this alliance is only possible because the parties have mutual selfish reasons and there is no ideological similarity or commonality otherwise. Their ideology is opposition (to each other). They have compromised from their ideological (viewpoint) and then only they have been able to form an alliance. Such alliances do not hold," he asserted.

He further said that it takes time to adjust in alliances but the MVA alliance is busy looking in different directions, naming different Chief Ministerial candidates. "Having said this, the MVA will not have an opportunity to make Chief Minister because they won't have the numbers," Narwekar said. while

Narwekar is contesting the upcoming elections in the state from south Mumbai's Colaba assembly constituency. If he wins, this will be his second term as an MLA from Colaba.

"Very exciting environment can be seen in Colaba Assembly constituency. I want to serve the people of Colaba once again as an MLA. I hope that people will make me win with a huge margin," said Narwekar.

Speaking on the accusations made by the opposition questioning his role as a speaker, Narwekar said that people have a habit of saying something or the other. He asserted that the decisions made by him were in line with the Constitution.

"People will keep saying something or the other. Anybody can make baseless allegations. Whatever decision I took, nobody could ever point out what was wrong with it because my decision was right and it was taken as per the Constitution. The decisions were in line with the provision in the law," he told ANI.

Reacting to Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray contesting assembly elections from the Worli constituency, the BJP leader said that the people of Worli are inclined towards Eknath Shinde's faction. (ANI)
