Uttarakhand by-election: BJP announces Asha Nautiyal as candidate for Kedarnath seat

The BJP's Central Election Committee on Sunday announced Asha Nautiyal as its candidate for the upcoming by-election in Uttarakhand's Kedarnath Assembly constituency.

Nautiyal has been nominated to contest the Kedarnath seat, as confirmed by the National General Secretary and Headquarters-in-Charge Arun Singh. The by-election will be held to fill a seat in the Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly.

Earlier in the same day, the Congress announced it would field former MLA Manoj Rawat from Kedarnath for the Assembly bypoll in Uttarakhand next month.

According to an AICC release, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge approved Rawat's candidature for the by-election.

The Kedarnath bypoll is scheduled for November 20, with vote counting to take place on November 23.On October 15, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed confidence in winning the upcoming elections in Maharashtra and Jharkhand, as well as the Kedarnath bypoll. He stated that voters would opt for a "double-engine government" in both states.

"The people of Maharashtra and Jharkhand will choose a double-engine government. We will continue to advance the development being carried out in the country and the states under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi," CM Dhami said.

He further emphasised that voters in both Maharashtra and Jharkhand would favour the BJP-led double-engine government. "There will be a by-election in Kedarnath, and in this bypoll, people will choose development and ensure BJP's victory. The people of Maharashtra and Jharkhand will also opt for a double-engine government," he added.

On October 15, the Election Commission of India (ECI) announced by-polls for 48 Assembly constituencies and two Parliamentary seats, scheduled in two phases alongside the Maharashtra and Jharkhand Assembly elections. Voting for the first phase, covering 47 Assembly constituencies and the Wayanad parliamentary seat in Kerala will take place on November 13. The second phase will occur on November 20 for the Kedarnath Assembly constituency in Uttarakhand and the Nanded parliamentary seat in Maharashtra. Vote counting for both phases will take place on November 23. (ANI)
