Thousands of people participated in the 19th edition of the Vedanta Delhi Half Marathon 2024 on Saturday.

The marathon, which started at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, saw around 36,000 runners competing for a total prize purse of USD 260,000.

Speaking to ANI, Indian Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi described the event as a shining example of the Fit India Movement.

"I feel very energised... I couldn't participate, but the atmosphere was fantastic. Participants as old as 92 took part. It was an inspiring morning and a perfect embodiment of the Fit India Movement," said the Navy Chief.

RPF Director General Manoj Yadav, who also ran in the marathon, told ANI, "The 65,000 RPF personnel rescue children from child trafficking. Over the last four years, we have brought 50,000 such children to safety. Today's run was dedicated to this cause."

In a post on X, Aam Aadmi Party leader Manish Sisodia said that the Vedanta Delhi Half Marathon brings together Delhi's diverse communities, fostering camaraderie and a shared passion for fitness.

"United we run, united we thrive! Witnessing participants overcome obstacles and achieve their goals is truly awe-inspiring. This event unites Delhi's diverse communities, fostering camaraderie and a shared love for fitness," Sisodia posted.

According to the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, the Fit India Movement was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2019 to encourage people to adopt healthier lifestyles. The movement has since gained widespread popularity across India, with various initiatives promoting physical activity and healthy habits. (ANI)
