The Delhi High Court on Thursday issued notice to Delhi Police and others regarding the early hearing application for the quashing petition filed by former Wrestling Federation chief Brij Bhushan Singh.

The bench of Justice Manoj Kumar Ohri after hearing the submissions, directed Standing Counsel for the State NCT of Delhi, to file a response. The next hearing is set for December 16.

Former Wrestling Federation of India Chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh has filed an application in the Delhi High Court seeking an early hearing on his plea for the dismissal of sexual harassment proceedings initiated by female wrestlers.

The Delhi High Court had recently issued notices to the state and the police regarding Singh's plea and fixed the next hearing for January 13, 2025.

Singh, a former MP, is contesting the allegations against him.

Brij Bhushan Singh, in his fresh application, stated that the prosecution evidence in the ongoing case is progressing on a weekly basis in the trial court and that evidence may be completed by January.

He emphasised the need for an early hearing in the Delhi High Court to address his plea for dismissal of the sexual harassment case and related proceedings. Singh stated that timely resolution is essential given the current pace of the trial.

On behalf of Brij Bhushan, the fresh application has been moved by Advocate Rajiv Mohan, assisted by Advocate Rehan Khan.

Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh recently approached the Delhi High Court to challenge the ongoing trial court proceedings linked to the FIR filed by several women wrestlers.

His petition seeks to contest the continuation of these proceedings, as he faces allegations of sexual harassment and outraging the modesty of women. Singh is seeking court direction to quash the FIR, the chargesheet, and the trial court's order regarding the framing of charges against him.

Earlier, the trial court had determined that there was sufficient evidence to proceed with charges of sexual harassment against Singh, with the Delhi Police having filed a chargesheet against him and Vinod Tomar based on the wrestlers' complaints. (ANI)
