Former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh Digvijaya Singh has taken a potshot at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over the recent drug seizure actions in the state claiming that most people who are involved in this have been links with people of Bharatiya Jana Sangh and the BJP.

Recently on October 12, DRI (Directorate of Revenue Intelligence) busted a factory engaged in the illegal manufacture of Mephedrone (a psychotropic substance under NDPS Act, 1985) in Jhabua district and confiscated 112 kg of narcotics.

Earlier on October 6, the Gujarat ATS and NCB confiscated MD drugs and raw materials of 907 kg valued at Rs 1,814 crore from a factory in the state capital Bhopal.

Reacting to these actions, Congress leader Singh said, "I have always been saying that since the time of Bharatiya Jana Sangh, people of Mandsaur, Neemuch has been cultivating opium (Afeem). Most of the people who are involved in this have links with people of Bharatiya Jana Sangh and Bharatiya Janata Party."

"I have been saying since the 1980s that if I had my way, I would stop opium cultivation in Madhya Pradesh. I was also criticized for this, at that time people said that this would cause a lot of harm. But harm is already happening, and the habits of our youth are getting spoiled. Now the matter has escalated further than opium cultivation, all this (referring to seized materials in recent actions) is imported drugs," he added.

Additionally, all the big factories of imported drugs have been in Nashik and the links of Bhopal factory have also been found to Nashik. Most factories in Nashik have links to Surat, Gujarat, the Congress leader added.

Meanwhile, retaliating to Singh's remark, state secretary of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Rajneesh Agarwal said that the Congress leader lost his mental balance and wanted to be headlines by making absurd statements.

"Digvijay Singh has risen above the constitution, rules, regulations and law and has also lost his normal mental balance. He wants to remain in discussions by giving absurd statements. Digvijay Singh should answer the questions being raised on the criminals associated with the Congress across the country. But he remains busy in flattering a family (referring to the Gandhi family) and making absurd statements," Agarwal told ANI over the phone.

Besides, reacting to a molestation case of a three-year-old girl in the state capital, the former CM said that he condemned the act and that strict action should be taken in the matter.

"I am not able to understand what is happening. Such incidents never happened before, but incidents are happening with small girls. I condemn these incidents and strict action should be taken into the matter," Singh said.

A minor girl was molested by the son of her coaching tutor under the jurisdiction of Bagsewaniya police station in the district on Tuesday evening, October 15. The following day, a case was registered against the accused after the counselling of the minor with the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) and medical examination. (ANI)
