The Supreme Court on Monday issued notice on a plea seeking a stipend to be paid to the Foreign Medical Graduates from a few colleges from the State of Kerala and Andhra Pradesh.
A bench comprising of Justice BR Gavai and Justice Prashant Kumar Mishra issued notice on a plea by Foreign Medical Graduates from a few medical colleges from the State of Andhra Pradesh and Kerala. The plea for a stipend to be paid to the Foreign Medical Graduates from a few colleges in the State of Kerala as mentioned in the plea was filed through the Association of Doctors and Medical Students and the plea for FMGs from a few colleges from the state of Andhra Pradesh was filed through the FMGs themselves. The petitioners Foreign Medical Graduates were represented through advocate Tanvi Dubey. The petitioners in their petition said that non-payment of stipend is a clear violation of their fundamental rights. They have also mentioned in the plea that if few other colleges are paying stipends to Foreign medical graduates, why are they discriminated against? Petitioners have also mentioned that there should be no discrimination between Indian medical graduates and foreign medical graduates. The Supreme Court today issued a notice in both petitions and tagged them with the matters concerning the payment of stipends to FMGs which are pending adjudication. (ANI)
