BJP councillor Aparna Patil has made a video of people consuming liquor on a main road of her area in Gwalior, circulated it on social media and sought an action against open boozing.
Patil, Councillor from ward 58 of Gwalior, said in the video, "Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister has shut down all the Ahatas (open drinking areas attached to liquor vends) in the state but see what is happening on this entire road in your state. The road has been converted into Ahatas. I am surprised that what action is being taken by the Chief Minister on his wish to close the Ahatas. If action is not taken within 7 days, then I will sit in the SP office." After the video went viral, ANI approached Patil and talked to her to know about the purpose of making the video and posting it on social media. "The motive of making video is a social purpose. Our Chief Minister shut down all Ahatas in the state but a road from Chandrabani Naka to the Divisional Commissioner's Office, Harishankar Puram which is a main road here, people sit on the road to drink alcohol as soon as sunsets. There are three colleges on this road, Science College, Polytechnic College and Music University. Even girls from the colony go to coaching via this road. After the construction of this road, we thought it would be a good way for our children and women to walk outside in the evening but it has been converted into Ahatas," Patil said. "Some people approached me with a complaint that they are facing a lot of trouble. I had talked to our police administration but no one paid attention to it. Finally, I had to take this step. Our Madhya Pradesh government also wants that all these places should be closed but I feel that the administration is not paying attention to it," "I have talked to SP, he assured me of cooperation and also started taking action. I have also warned to clean the road within seven days, if he does not take action, then I will sit on dharna. Our Prime Minister is the Chowkidar of the country and I am a councillor from this ward, the public has elected me, so I will definitely do the Chowkidari of this ward," she concluded. Meanwhile, Superintendent of Police (SP), Rakesh Kumar Sagar said that he already instructed the police station in charge to take action into the matter. "We have already instructed the police station in-charge that no person has the right to drink alcohol freely in front of a liquor shop. In such a situation, instructions have been given to take legal action against them. I have also instructed that if such violation is reported then we will send a report to the government for taking serious action against the contractor," SP Sagar said. If someone consumes alcohol in public then undoubtedly the police station in-charges have been instructed to take action against them, the officer added. (ANI)
