In an effort to curb air pollution and promote environmental sustainability, the UT Administration has permitted the use of eco-friendly green crackers during the forthcoming festivals of Dussehra, Diwali, and Gurpurab, said PRO Chandigarh Administration in an official statement on Friday.

This decision, taken during the meeting with Administrator, Gulab Chand Kataria, emphasizes the commitment of the Chandigarh Administration towards a cleaner and healthier environment.

Residents of Chandigarh, will be able to celebrate these festivals with green crackers within designated time limits.

The green crackers permitted are to be duly approved by the National Environmental and Engineering Research Institute (NEERI), a subsidiary of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), ensuring they meet eco-friendly standards by reducing harmful emissions significantly compared to traditional firecrackers.

For convenience, permissions for the sale of green crackers will be issued through the D.C. Office in an online mode, ensuring transparency and ease of access for vendors. (ANI)
