Biju Janata Dal (BJD) leader and Rajya Sabha MP Debashish Samantaray on Sunday expressed confidence in the exit polls predicting victories for Congress in the Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections.
Samantaray said, "Everyone is predicting a victory for Congress in Haryana and a direct alliance with the National Conference in Jammu and Kashmir, indicating that a Congress government will be formed." "I think this exit poll is quite general because all the exit polls are giving a similar advantage to Congress. So I'm quite confident that Congress will come to power in Jammu and Kashmir, separately with the National Conference, and directly in Haryana," he said. Samantaray also pointed to the implications for the upcoming Maharashtra elections, and said, "This exit poll also gives an indication of what will happen in Maharashtra, which is the next state election we will face." He believes that the 'equation' among the INDIA bloc seems to be quite 'strong' and is optimistic. He said, "the Maharashtra election could also go in favour of the INDI Alliance, showing a rising popularity for the regional party as well as the INDIA block." According to him, the INDIA bloc will gain momentum as Congress continues to grow. "What we see on social media is that Rahul Gandhi's popularity is also increasing. The likes on his posts are soaring, and the youth across the country are able to identify with him", the BJD leader added Samantaray also pointed out the challenges faced by the BJP and the RSS, stating that "there are differences within their organisation." He mentioned that the INDIA bloc might need to bring more regional parties on board to strengthen its position. While speaking to ANI he also emphasised that Naveen Patnaik has made it clear that the BJD is in the opposition, stating, "The mandate we received in Odisha is to remain in a position of opposition, and we will work accordingly." The exit polls predicted a clean sweep for the Congress in Haryana, with some polls predicting the party will win more than 50 of the 90 seats in the assembly. The TV-Today C voter projection said that the party may win 50-58 seats in the state, while it said that the BJP can win 20-28 seats. The other can win 10-16 seats. The majority mark to form the government in the 90-member assembly is 46. According to the Republic TV-Matrize poll, the Congress Party may get 55-62 seats out of 90, while the BJP is poised to win 18-24 seats. People Pulse poll survey said that the Congress may get 44-54 seats, BJP 15-29 and others may win up to 4-9 seats. Dainik Bhaskar in its poll survey suggested that the Congress will get 44-54 seats, BJP 15-29 and others may get 4-9. As per the Dhruv Research polls survey, the Congress may get 50-64 seats, and BJP may win up to 22-32 seats in the state. (ANI)
