Rae Bareli (Uttar Pradesh) | October 4, 2024 2:41:48 PM IST
Congress MP Kishori Lal Sharma stated on Friday that the most severe punishment should be given to the person involved in the murder of four members of a family in Amethi.

"This is a heinous crime... I have been in touch with the victim's family since yesterday, they want the culprit to be punished severely, and we also want the harshest punishment. His family says that an FIR was filed in Rae Bareli, if the police had taken it seriously then this incident would not have happened," Sharma told ANI.

Sharma also demanded that the Uttar Pradesh government compensate the family of the deceased. He added that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has spoken to the family and come to meet them.

"We want the police to get to the bottom of the matter and the government should compensate to the family... Rahul Gandhi has spoken to the family, he has said that he will come to meet them," he added.

In a gruesome murder that occurred here in Oharwa Bhawani on Thursday evening, the family of a 35-year-old government school teacher was shot dead at their residence.

On the eve of Navratri, the assailants had barged into the residence of the victim, Sunil Kumar and shot dead him and his family, consisting of his wife Poonam Bharti, and his two daughters, aged five and two.

As per police, the deceased wife had filed an FIR against Chandan Verma, a probable accused in the case under various sections of IPC at the Raebareli Police Station.

Further information from the police has revealed that there are no signs of forced entry of the assailants in the house.

"Unknown people had entered the home and shot dead the teacher, his wife and his two daughters, aged five and two. The case does not appear to be of robbery. A case had been filed against a man identified as Chandan Verma around August 18 in connection with the commission of offences under the SC/ST Act. We are investigating if that is a possible reason for the murder," said Superintendent Anup Singh.

A panel of doctors here have conducted the post-mortem of the bodies of the deceased and have sent them to Sudampur in Raebareli, the village of the deceased.

Anshuman Singh, CMO Amethi, said, "In the postmortem findings, one bullet was recovered from Sunil Kumar and two bullets were recovered from his wife Poonam and there were exit wounds in the two children, which confirms that they were killed by bullets. Post-mortem findings have been submitted to the police."

UP CM Yogi Adityanath assured that strict action would be taken against the accused in this case.

"The incident that happened in Amethi district today is highly condemnable and unforgivable. My condolences are with the bereaved family. The government stands with the victim's family in this hour of grief. The culprits of this incident will not be spared at any cost, strictest legal action will be taken against them," the CM said in a post on X. (ANI)
