The 8th edition of India Kazakhstan Joint Exercise KAZIND is presently underway at Surya Foreign Training Node, Auli, Uttarakhand, on Friday. The Kazind joint military exercise between India and Kazakhstan is based on the theme of conducting Joint Subconventional Operations under Chapter VII of the United Nations Mandate.

The joint military exercise between Indian and Kazakhstan forces began on 30 September 2024 with the primary objective of strengthening interoperability and cooperation, particularly in the context of counter-terrorism operations. The Indian contingent, consisting of 120 personnel, is mainly composed of a battalion from the esteemed Kumaon Regiment and the Indian Air Force. Additionally, the contingent includes personnel from various supporting arms and services to ensure comprehensive participation and representation from the Indian military.

The contingents have so far participated in Yoga, Army Martial Arts Routine, Rock Craft Training and Special Heliborne operations. The Yoga session brought together troops of both contingents, thus highlighting the significance of yoga in physical well-being, mental health, spiritual balance and fostering resilience among troops. Indian troops also demonstrated their skills in Army Martial Arts Routine to the Kazakhstan contingent, wherein hand-to-hand combat abilities were showcased.

The Joint Exercise Rock craft Training programme focused on equipping soldiers with advanced skills for operating effectively in rugged, mountainous terrain. This included specialised techniques for navigating difficult environments, such as rappelling, rock climbing, and survival skills tailored for high altitude and harsh conditions. The training aimed to enhance soldiers' abilities to carry out counter-terrorist missions in challenging terrains where traditional methods might not be effective.

Additionally, the Special Heliborne Operations training emphasised rapid deployment techniques, with a focus on inserting troops into hostile areas via helicopters for swift and precise operations. This involved comprehensive training in helicopter insertion and extraction methods, as well as coordination with air support for quick and effective deployment in high-risk situations. (ANI)
