Justice Indra Prasanna Mukerji was sworn in as the Chief Justice of the Meghalaya High Court on Thursday.

Governor CH Vijayashankar administered the oath of office at a ceremony held at Raj Bhavan's Durbar Hall in Shillong.

Justice Mukerji, who was earlier appointed as a judge in the Calcutta High Court, assumed the role following the retirement of Chief Justice S Vaidyanathan.

On September 21, the Department of Justice issued an order to appoint Justice Indra Prasanna Mukerji, a judge of Calcutta High Court, as Chief Justice of Meghalaya High Court.

The issued order reads, "In exercise of the power conferred by clause (1) of Article 217 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint Justice Indra Prasanna Mukeiji, Judge of the Calcutta High Court, to be Chief Justice of the Meghalaya High Court, with effect from the date he assumes charge of his office."
