Mahendragarh (Haryana) | October 3, 2024 6:41:59 PM IST
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi launched a scathing attack on Adani and the BJP, claiming that Adani is destroying the future of Haryana and its children while the BJP has brought unemployment and addiction to the state. He made these remarks during a public rally with former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupendra Hooda in Mahendragarh on Thursday.

The Lok Sabha Leader of the Opposition (LOP) said, "All the TV people will shout, look, the habits of the poor are getting spoiled... Now we will spoil their habits; I am just asking for justice."

Gandhi argued that if loans for billionaires like Ambani and Adani can be waived, then farmers should also receive the same treatment. "If Ambani and Adani loans can be waived off, then the farmer's loans should also be waived off too. If Ambani sells chips in the market, sells Campa Cola, or sells cell phones, he gets the right rate. Then the farmers of India will get the right rate (for their produce), and their loans will be waived off," the Congress leader said.

He added, "The farmer of India does not want any free gift; he only wants his rights and nothing else."

During his address, Gandhi also accused Prime Minister Modi of being silent on drug trafficking. The Congress leader said, "Drugs are spreading in Haryana, unemployment, and drug addiction; these are the days of the BJP. When thousands of kilos of heroin meant for your children are caught in the pots of Adani, then Narendra Modi does not take any action, and our media friends are nowhere to be seen. Adani is destroying the future of the children of Haryana; he is destroying the future of this state. Thousands of kilos of heroin are caught in his ports, and Narendra Modi remains silent."

At the rally, the Congress leader then reiterated the promises the party has made regarding financial aid and job opportunities for the state's residents.

"That money has to be put in your pockets," he said, promising that Rs. 2,000 would be credited to women's bank accounts every month after the new government takes office. He further added, "Today you buy a cylinder for Rs1,200; it will become Rs500, and the remaining Rs700 will go in your pocket." He also promised to restore the old pension scheme, pledging Rs. 6,000 per month for old age, disability, and widow pensions.

The leader added, "The Congress government will provide 2 lakh government jobs to the youth of Haryana. These jobs will be given to 36 communities, with equality, respect, and honour. These 2 lakh jobs will be given to the youth of 36 communities of Haryana. There will be no discrimination in this; all 36 communities will be given these jobs."

Addressing farmers, he said, "We are going to give you MSP with a guarantee," while promising immediate payment for insurance claims. In addition, he said, "You (Haryana) will be given 300 units of free electricity and Rs 25 lakh in health insurance for necessary medical procedures."

He then took another swipe at the BJP's Agniveer scheme, suggesting it diverts funds from soldiers to private companies. "This is a way of snatching it," he claimed, urging people to remember "Adani Defence" as a key beneficiary of these funds.

"You voted for the Congress party; you protected the Constitution. You voted for the BJP; you helped them attack the Constitution", He said, while adding,"This country cannot be run with hatred. Our government is going to come here; there is going to be a storm," Gandhi added.

Haryana will go to the polls on October 5 to elect its 90-member state legislative assembly, with counting set to take place on October 8. In the 2019 elections, the BJP emerged as the single largest party, securing 40 seats, while Congress won 30 seats. (ANI)
