Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud on Wednesday paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on the occasion of his birth anniversary at Rajghat and the Supreme Court premises.
CJI Chandrachud along with other Supreme Court judges also paid tributes to Lal Bahadur Shastri to mark his birth anniversary. To pay tribute, the CJI and other judges garlanded a statue of Gandhi installed in the Supreme Court premises and a photograph of former Prime Minister Shastri. Mahatma Gandhi and Shastri, India's second Prime Minister, were born on this day.Gandhi Jayanti is celebrated every year to mark the birth anniversary of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. The whole nation pays tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on this day and it is marked as a national holiday.Born on October 2, 1869, in Porbandar town of Gujarat, Gandhi adopted a non-violent resistance and was at the forefront of the freedom struggle against colonial British rule with utmost patience. This led to India finally achieving its independence in 1947.Meanwhile, former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri is recognized for his slogan, "Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan". The former PM Shastri was a great visionary leader, who understood people's language and who led the country towards progress. He was deeply influenced by the political teachings of Mahatma Gandhi.
