Assam minister Pijush Hazarika, along with Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers held a massive protest rally at Jagiroad here on Tuesday demanding an apology from Congress leader and Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge for his remarks on Assam's semiconductor project.

Speaking to the media, Hazarika said that Kharge's tweets regarding Assam's semiconductor was a sad statement for Assam.

"Few days back, Priyank Kharge tweeted about Assam's semiconductor and it was a very sad thing for Assam. He questioned on why Assam had the semiconductor but not Karnataka. I say I am an Indian and I am nationalist. I say Karnataka should get but why should Assam not get. We demand an apology from Priyank Kharge and the Congress party. Congress does not want the development of states," he said.

In a post on X, Hazarika wrote, "Today I joined the people of Jagiroad and my fellow@BJP4Assamcolleagues & karyakartas to protest against @INCAssamand the family of their "President" Mr@khargefor their vehement opposition to Assam's biggest ever private investment. Cong is anti-Assam thus cannot digest the state's development."

On July 16, the Assam government handed over a state owned land site in Morigaon, where the Tata Group will set up a mega semiconductor plan. The site was formally handed over after a lease agreement, making way for the construction to be commenced soon.

It marked a significant milestone as the land agreement for Tata Group's semiconductor project in Jagiroad, Morigaon district, was successfully finalized. The agreement, signed at the Sub-Registrar's office, Morigaon leases 517.27 bighas of land to Tata Group for a duration of 60 years.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for Tata Group's semiconductor and testing center in Jagiroad on March 13, inaugurating a technological milestone for Assam.

Tata Semiconductor Assembly and Test Pvt Ltd ("TSAT") will set up a semiconductor unit in Morigaon, Assam. With a capacity of producing 48 million chips per day, this facility is being built for Rs 27,000 crore. Segments that will be covered are automotive, electric vehicles, consumer electronics, telecom, and mobile phones. (ANI)
