On Tuesday, Governor P.S. Sreedharan Pillai extended his warm greetings to the people on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti.
In his message, the governor said, "We celebrate this day with great pleasure every year to pay tribute to the 'Father of the Nation' as well as to remember his values, principles, and philosophy. The 2nd October is also celebrated internationally as the 'International Day of Non-Violence', because of being a preacher of non-violence throughout his life. We remember Gandhiji as Bapu. He was a symbol of peace, non-violence and truth." On Gandhi Jayanti Diwas, he also remembers the struggle of Mahatma Gandhi, who played a crucial role in India's fight for freedom against the British. "Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi or Mahatma Gandhi, was a renowned freedom activist and an authoritative or powerful political leader who played an essential role in India's struggle for Independence against British rule of India. He aimed to build a new society that practices non-violence and honest behaviour," he said. He further said, "His legendary tolls of truth and non-violence in fighting for freedom have inspired so many leaders across the length and breadth of the globe in their struggles against injustice. Spinning and weaving were elevated to an ideology of self-reliance and self-governance." The governor additionally said that 'Swachh Bharat Diwas' is to be observed as a tribute to the Father of the Nation. He said, "2nd October is observed as 'Swachh Bharat Diwas' as a tribute to the Father of the Nation. He fought for the rights of the downtrodden and weaker sections. He wanted India to be free from the undesirable practice of untouchability." "Mahatma Gandhi's life and principles have inspired lives of all ages," the governor said, urging all the people to follow the principles laid by Mahatma Gandhi," the governor added. (ANI)
