Artists fraternity on Saturday held a protest in Kolkata over the RG Kar rape and murder incident with a painting exhibition dedicated to the victim.

While speaking to ANI, an artist said that justice should be served, stating that perpetrators should face a punishment that deters future crimes.

"This exhibition is to ensure that justice is served for the RG Kar victim. Justice must be served, and the perpetrators should receive a punishment that makes anyone think ten times before committing such a crime in the future," she said.

Earlier today, the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) held a rally demanding justice for RG Kar hospital rape and murder victim.

CITU president Subhash Mukherjee told ANI that they have come together to demand justice for the RG Kar rape and murder victim and punishment for the accused.

"Today... we are rallying for justice for the victim of RG Kar Medical College rape and murder victim and punishment for the culprit," Mukherjee told ANI.

People and doctors in West Bengal have been protesting the brutal rape and murder of a trainee woman doctor at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. The victim was found dead in the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9.

The incident has sparked a war of words between the BJP and the state government, with the BJP demanding the resignation of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

On September 10, a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court remanded Sandip Ghosh and three others to judicial custody till September 23 in the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital financial irregularities case.

The Anti-Corruption Branch of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested Sandip Ghosh on September 2.

Ghosh was under investigation for alleged corruption and financial irregularities at the college and hospital, following a directive from a single bench of the Calcutta High Court, which ordered the CBI to probe the matter.

On August 26, the CBI also concluded a second round of polygraph tests on Dr Ghosh as part of their investigation into the rape-murder of a woman doctor at the institution. (ANI)
