The Students' Federation of India (SFI) and All India Students' Association (AISA), who are contesting the Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) elections together for the first time, announced their candidates on Thursday.
As per an official release, Saavy Gupta, a third-year student of Law Centre-2, will represent the alliance for the post of president. Ayush Mondal, a first-year student from LC-2, will be contesting for the post of Vice-President. Ayush hails from Bakura, West Bengal. Sneha Agarwal, another first-year Law student at LC-2, will be contesting for the post of Secretary. Sneha is also the state committee member of SFI. The panel will also be represented by Anamika K, a first year student of MA Political Science, for the post of Joint Secretary. The date for the students' union polls is scheduled for September 27. Meanwhile, On September 11, the Delhi High Court directed the Vice Chancellor of Delhi University and other concerned respondents to address the representation seeking the implementation of 50 per cent women's reservation in the Delhi University Students Union Elections. The plea emphasised the need for gender equality in student governance. The plea in the Delhi High Court sought directions to the Central Government, UGC, and Delhi University to reserve 50 per cent of seats for female students in the Delhi University Student Union Elections (DUSU) and college student union elections. Earlier this month, RSS-affiliated student wing the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) announced its election committee for the upcoming Delhi University Students' Union elections. The election committee will make election related decisions including the selection of candidates of ABVP for contesting election, according to a press release from ABVP. Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad Delhi State President Tapan Bihari has been appointed as the Chairman of the DUSU election committee. (ANI)
