"People of J&;K come in large numbers to listen to PM Modi," says BJP's Tarun Chugh

Lauding Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) incharge of Jammu and Kashmir and Party National General Secretary Tarun Chugh said that the people of the union territory came out in large numbers and showcased enthusiasm every time the PM paid a visit here.

"Whenever he (PM Modi) has visited Jammu and Kashmir, people have come out in large numbers to listen to him and there is a lot of enthusiasm among the people of Jammu and Kashmir, preparations for the programme are going on at war level...In tomorrow's programme, people are coming in large numbers to listen to the Prime Minister. The way the people have decorated the roads and the markets of Srinagar shows that Prime Minister Modi has made immense efforts and worked hard for the development of Jammu and Kashmir, to win the trust of the people..." said Chugh.

Speaking on the first phase elections of J&K, he said, "This is the victory of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of development and trust. This is the same land where elections used to be boycotted... Now people are voting in large numbers, long queues show that today people are trusting the Constitution of India, the democracy of India..."

J-K recorded 41.17 % turnout as of 1 pm in the first phase of polls. According to the ECI, Kishtwar recorded 56.86 per cent turnout followed by Doda 50.81 per cent, Ramban 49.68 per cent, Kulgam 39.91 per cent, Shopian 38.72 per cent, Anantnag 37.90 per cent and Pulwama 29.84 per cent.

Voting, which commenced at 7 am today, is underway across the Union Territory. It will conclude at 6 pm.

In the first phase, 24 assembly constituencies across the Union Territory are voting today; that includes 16 seats in the Kashmir region and 8 seats in the Jammu region. Voting for the second and third phases in J-K will be held on September 25 and October 1, respectively. Vote counting will be held on October 8. (ANI)
