Amid protests by junior doctors in Kolkata, a bench led by Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud on Tuesday resumed hearing its suo motu case over the alleged rape and murder of a trainee doctor at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in West Bengal's capital city on August 9.

During its last hearing on September 9, the apex court had asked the protesting doctors to resume their duties by 5 pm on September 10.

The doctors have, however, continued their protests.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, yesterday agreeing to doctors' demands, announced that Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Kumar Goyal, the Deputy Commissioner of Kolkata Police, North, and two senior officials of Health Department would be replaced.

During today's hearing Senior Advocate Kapil Sibal raised concern about live streaming of the court's proceedings stating that it is having huge implications and clarifies that he is not representing the accused but representing the state of West Bengal.

Sibal also apprised the bench stating that advocates in his chamber have been getting rape threats.

CJI Chandrachud, however, said that live streaming of proceedings will not be halted as it is a matter of public interest. He however, assured that steps will be taken to protect the members of the Bar.

As per the Court's prior directions, the CBI has filed a fresh status report.

Supreme Court perusing the report said that investigation by CBI is to unearth the absolute truth and said the Central agency has responded to all of the issues raised by the top court including the process of post mortem

The apex court said that CBI had to be given adequate time to unearth the truth. (ANI)
