Assam police recovers 1.20 lakh Yaba tablets and heroin worth Rs 42 cr from vehicle in Karimganj

Three accused were arrested after recovery of 1.20 lakh Yaba tablets and 537 grams of heroin, the total market value of seized drugs being Rs 42 crore, from a vehicle in Assam's Karimganj district, police said on Monday.

Partha Protim Das, Superintendent of Police of Karimganj district, told ANI that the accused had tried to carry the seized narcotics to the rest of the country through Guwahati.

"Yesterday night we received an input that a vehicle is coming from Champhai district of Mizoram carrying narcotics. Today morning, we intercepted the vehicle at Patel Nagar area under Karimganj police station. After a thorough search, we recovered 1.20 lakh Yaba tablets and 537 grams of heroin from the secret chamber inside the front seat of the vehicle. We have taken two people in our custody," he said.

The accused were identified as Hanif Uddin of the Ratabari police station area and Jabrul Hussain of the Patharkandi police station area of Karimganj district.

"The market value of the seized drugs is estimated at around Rs 42 crore. In linkage we have apprehended one more person. Further investigation is underway," the senior police official said. (ANI)
