Tarn Taran (Punjab) | September 16, 2024 12:11:38 PM IST
Border Security Force (BSF) troops seized two suspected packets of heroin during a nighttime patrol and search operation along the Tarn Taran border on Sunday. The packets were discovered at 9:45 pm in the border area near Naushera Dhalla village.

According to the BSF spokesperson, the packets were wrapped in yellow adhesive tape secured with black tape, and each packet also had an improvised iron ring and two illuminating sticks attached. The total weight of the suspected heroin was 1.146 kilograms.

BSF troops conducted a follow-up search of the surrounding areas but did not find anything else. The BSF stated, "Keen observation and diligent efforts of BSF troops effectively thwarted yet another attempt to smuggle a narcotics consignment into Punjab from across the border."

Earlier, on the night of September 13 acting on intelligence from the BSF, a joint operation with Punjab Police was conducted in Jodhawala, Fazilka. The operation, launched led to the arrest of two individuals, including a fugitive wanted under the NDPS Act. Both suspects, residents of Jodhawala and Mamdot's Changarai village, had been under BSF surveillance and are now in police custody for further interrogation regarding their drug syndicate links in Punjab and Pakistan. This success highlights the efficiency of BSF's intelligence network and the swift action of both forces.

On September 12, in a joint operation, the BSF and Punjab Police recovered a drone with a large consignment of heroin in the Tarn Taran district on Thursday.

After activating technical countermeasures, the BSF successfully neutralised a drone intrusion on the Tarn Taran border. Following this, a joint search operation by BSF troops and Punjab Police led to the recovery of one assembled drone (quadcopter) and a large packet of suspected heroin (gross weight: 6.230 kg) from a farming field near Gilpan village. The narcotics were wrapped in yellow adhesive tape and included an improvised loop and two illuminating sticks.

Additionally on September 12, as part of its ongoing efforts to curb drug smuggling via drones the BSF neutralized a drone attempting to cross the international border at Tarn Taran. Following the incident, a joint search operation with Punjab Police led to the recovery of an assembled quadcopter and 6.230 kg of suspected heroin from a field near Gilpan village, Tarn Taran district.
