After senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Anil Vij staked claim for the position of the Chief Minister ahead of the Haryana Assembly polls, Aam Aadmi Party leader and Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema said that the BJP was a party of dictatorship and that democracy had long gone from the party.
Speaking to ANI on Sunday, Cheema said that the BJP had always kept the people who have won the most time at the back and had those candidates the Chief Minister who have won just once. "I can understand that inside the BJP there is no democracy. For selecting the Chief Minister or giving the ticket, there is no democracy in the BJP. They have always kept candidates who have won the most at the back and have made those candidates Chief Ministers who have won just once. It is a party of dictatorship, and democracy has long gone," Cheema said. He further asserted that the people of Haryana have already decided and that the BJP will lose in the upcoming Haryana Assembly polls. Speaking on Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's resignation statement, Harpal Singh Cheema said that this move was to show that people have the highest power in democracy. He further said that by doing this, Kejriwal is asking the people to vote for him if they think that he is innocent or otherwise vote for someone else. "The nation knows that the BJP filed a fake case against Arvind Kejriwal and sent him to jail. Now the court has granted him bail. The people have the highest power in democracy... And now, Arvind Kejriwal will go among the people and ask them if I am innocent, then vote for him; otherwise, vote for someone else. He has become an example in politics among the people. He has worked for the poor. His respect has been increased," Cheema added. (ANI)
