Days after Vinesh Phogat joined the Congress, former WFI President and BJP leader Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh claimed that the Jantar Mantar protests in 2023 were motivated and the Hooda family will not be forgiven for the gamble they have played by putting the honour of women at stake.

Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh said, "During the Mahabharata, the Pandavas had put Draupadi on stake and lost. The country has not forgiven the Pandavas for this till date. Similarly, the Hooda family will not be forgiven for the gamble they have played by putting the honour of our sisters and daughters at stake. In all three cases against me, I am outside. Two cases are going on in Lucknow."

Singh further said that the sequence of activities showed that the protests at Jantar Mantar were led by Deepender Singh Hooda.

He further said, "The protests at Jantar Mantar were actually led by Deepender Singh Hooda. The sequence of activities goes against the Congress. The protest was not for dignity of women. On the first day, it looked like protests by players. Later one by one everyone left and a family was left along with a group of wrestlers led by Deepender Singh Hooda."

He said that when the truth comes out, they won't be able to answer.

Earlier wrestler Bajrang Punia extended his support to fellow wrestler Vinesh Phogat, who is contesting the Haryana Assembly elections from Julana, and said that he will work in the organisation and carry out the responsibility given by the party's 'High Command'.

"We had decided that only one of us would contest the election, and she is contesting. I stand with Vinesh...I will work in the organisation and carry out the responsibility given by the High Command," he said.

When asked about the allegations of wrestlers' protests backed by Congress in wake of them joining the party, Punia said that they had nothing to do with politics at that time.

"Why were we made to sit on protest? Who were they? Congress party's or someone else's? We had nothing to do with politics at that time. We did not allow any politicians on our stage initially...It is their job to set a narrative...There is nothing like that," he said.

"I would like to thank everyone. I think I will receive the same love in politics that I received through wrestling. I have come here with a sense of service to people. I will work hard by being in the grassroots," Punia added.

The voting to the 90-member legislative assembly in Haryana will be held on October 5 and the last date for filing nominations is September 12. The counting of votes will be held on October 8. (ANI)
