Following the claims made by former Wrestling Federation of India president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh that the wrestlers' protest was "politically motivated" by the Congress, party leader Supriya Shrinate on Saturday slammed the Bharatiya Janata Party government for not taking action against the BJP leader and said that Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh is a "blot on civil society."

"I feel ashamed that a man who is named in a chargesheet, who has serious allegations of sexual harassment against him, who could not reach the Parliament of this country is being repeatedly given a political stage by the media... He is attacking Vinesh Phogat but 6 other girls also accused him of sexual harassment. Have those allegations gone away?. Delhi Police was shielding him. Vinesh Phogat fought this very bravely. She fought for her rights. She was dragged and stomped. After all this, she went to the Olympics and almost won a Gold, she deserved the medal," Shrinate told ANI.

She further said that the manner in which Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh is speaking against women wrestlers and Bajrang Punia is 'absolutely wrong'.

"But the media is giving him stage again and again, you feel there is 'masala' in the story - I ask you one question, many among you are women. Were the remaining 6 other girls wrong?..Why does she and the daughters of our country not have the right to enter politics?.. There is no politics when you make Babita Phogat contest elections, you then deny her a ticket and discard her. There is no politics when Ravindra Jadeja joins your party. What are you saying? A woman raised her voice against the injustice done to her and she fought the system. She won the fight. Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh is a blot on civil society. With what he is saying again and again, he is ensuring our victory in Haryana," she added.

Shrinate further asserted that God has punished Brij Bhushan, adding that Vinesh Phogat is about to win and become an MLA.

"God punished Brij Bhushan, he is not in the Parliament and Vinesh Phogat is about to win and become an MLA...He is sitting and making statements and Vinesh Phogat will become an MLA. This is the strength and justice of time. This is the justice of God. The allegations by 6 other girls still remain to this day, you are still chargesheeted and someone in public life should not say such things," she added.

Earlier on Friday, the former WFI president said the joining of Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia to the Congress party proves that the entire wrestlers' movement was a "conspiracy" against him and the Congress party was behind it.

Brij Bhushan further stated that the Congress would regret their decision and claimed that the wrestler's protest that started in Jantar Mantar in January last year was not a movement of sportspersons and Congress was behind it, which was led by Bhupinder Hooda.

"On 18th January 2023, when the protest started at Jantar Mantar, I said that this is not a movement of sportspersons; Congress is behind it. Especially Bhupinder Hooda, Deepender Hooda, Priyanka Ji, and Rahul Ji. This is a movement of Congress. And today this thing has been proved. In this entire movement, the conspiracy that happened against us, Congress was involved in it and Bhupinder Hooda was leading it," he said.

"One day Congress will have to regret it," he further added. Singh further alleged that the wrestler's protest was not for the dignity of women, adding that because of the protests, the 'daughters' of Haryana are facing embarrassment.

Earlier, the two ace wrestlers, Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia, joined the Congress almost a month before the Haryana assembly polls. (ANi)
