Ahmedabad (Gujarat) | September 5, 2024 11:11:41 AM IST
With Ganesh Chaturthi festival approaching, the demand for Lord Ganesha idols has surged in Ahmedabad, creating a vibrant market scene. Artisans and sellers are experiencing a high demand for these idols, which are being sourced from various regions across Gujarat.

Ganesh idol craftsman Vijay Naik noted an increased interest from buyers this year. "The demand is so high that I stopped taking orders a month ago," Naik said.

He further explained that the artisans faced challenges in obtaining materials due to weather-related delays.

"We didn't receive the clay on time because of the rains. The stock at the factories was submerged in water, making it difficult to get supplies. Now, whatever we have managed to get is priced significantly higher," he added.

The market is filled with idols of various sizes, colors, and designs, showcasing the artisans' creativity. Some idols are painted green or blue, while others depict Lord Ganesha sitting on a cow or lion, highlighting the intricate craftsmanship.

Ganesh Chaturthi 2024, falling on September 7, marks the joyous celebration of Lord Ganesha's birth. Devotees across India and abroad are preparing vibrant pandals, offering prayers, and performing rituals to seek the deity's blessings for wisdom and prosperity. The festival concludes with the grand visarjan, where Ganesha idols are immersed in water amidst chants and music.

A similar surge in demand is being observed in Hyderabad, where artisans and sellers are also busy fulfilling orders. Idols are being sourced from various regions, particularly Solapur in Maharashtra.

Kishore Yadav, an experienced idol seller in Hyderabad, spoke about the steady rise in demand over the years. "I have been selling idols here for the past 5-6 years, and demand has always been strong. We source our idols from Solapur, Maharashtra, which is renowned for its craftsmanship. Every year, we offer 150-200 varieties of idols, and this year is no different," Yadav said. (ANI)
