The Delhi police have registered an FIR (No. 583/24) in connection with an extortion case and a shootout that took place in Narela on Monday. The complaint was lodged by Rajiv Singh, a 38-year-old worker from the local grain market in Narela. Singh reported receiving a threatening phone call on August 25, demanding Rs 4 lakhs from him.

The caller claimed to be one of the men who had previously abducted Singh in February, along with three accomplices. During that earlier incident, they had extorted Rs 3.4 lakhs from Singh. Out of fear for his safety and that of his family, Singh had initially kept the abduction a secret. However, after receiving more threats, he decided to report the matter to the police.

Following Singh's complaint, the police registered an FIR under sections '386, 387, 120B, and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and sections 25/27 of the Arms Act'. A police raid was conducted to capture the suspects in Narela.

Based on intelligence, the police arrested two suspects: Vinay, 30, from G-103, Punjabi Colony, Narela, and Vijay, 32, from VPO Shamli, District Shamli, UP. According to the Delhi Police report, Vinay was injured during the encounter when he fired at the police, who returned fire in self-defence, hitting Vinay in the left knee. Vinay had a prior criminal record with an FIR registered against him related to robbery and assault.

Both Vinay and Vijay were arrested, and a new FIR was filed under various sections which include '109, 221, 132, and 3(5) BNS (307, 186, 353, and 34 IPC) and sections 25/27 of the Arms Act'. The investigation into the case is ongoing.

Earlier today, Delhi Police said under Operation Kavach-5 raided 325 places in 15 districts and arrested 74 narco offenders between August 31 and September 1. Delhi police said that during the intervening night of August 31 & September 1, various teams of Delhi Police were constituted to take strict action against narco-criminals under the "Zero tolerance policy," and for the implementation of "Operation Kavach-5.0" 325 places in 15 districts of Delhi were raided.
