On the first day of the monsoon session of the Himachal Pradesh Assembly, the Mahila Congress staged a "Vidhan Sabha Gherao" protest demanding enhanced safety and security for women in Himachal Pradesh and across India.

This protest is part of the broader "Nari Nyay Aandolan" movement, through which the Mahila Congress seeks to push for a 33 per cent reservation for women in legislative bodies and improved safety and security measures nationwide.

"There has been a serious allegation against BJP MLA Hansraj, and so far, nothing has been done. An FIR has been registered, and we are asking the police what action has been taken on the FIR registered against the BJP Legislator in the state, where a young girl has accused him of asking for obscene videos," said Alka Lamba, a senior Congress leader.

Referring to a recent statement made by Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut, Alka Lamba added, "It is unfortunate that an MP compares farmers with rapists and murderers. The Prime Minister should apologize to the 'Anndata'--the farmers of this country--and the BJP MP should be expelled from Parliament."

Jenab Chandel, the Himachal Pradesh Mahila Congress Chief, expressing outrage, said, "There is a hue and cry across the country over the safety and security of women, and here we have a BJP MLA accused of harassment. The BJP always protects those accused of crimes against women. Our government has registered an FIR, and we demand the police arrest the legislator. Our national chief has come here to support us. We want to showcase our protest and the anger of women against these injustices."

"The BJP MP's statement about the farmers of this country is unacceptable," added Chandel, underscoring the party's stance against derogatory remarks and advocating for justice and respect for farmers.

As part of the "Nari Nyay Aandolan," the Mahila Congress plans to continue its campaign by meeting state governors across India to press for their demands, emphasizing both women's safety and the need for political accountability. (ANI)
