Senior Maharashtra Congress leader and former MP, Hussain Dalwai, spoke on Tuesday about the collapse of a 35-foot Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj statue in Sindhudurg, which has led to widespread embarrassment for the state government and has turned into a political issue.

Speaking to ANI, Dalwai said that if they wanted to build a statue in the water, they should have waited, a decision was anyways being taken to build a statue in Mumbai.

"This is stupidity. If they wanted to build a statue in the water, they could have done it in Mumbai. Anyways, a decision was being taken to do so. Do they even have respect for Shivaji Maharaj is my question? Wherever the Prime Minister has inaugurated a statue, problems are being caused," he said.

Further, he claimed, that the new Parliament is also facing problems, and the Atal Setu bridge is also facing problems.

Dalwai added, "All the new constructions are facing issues. If you look, the new Parliament is also facing water leakage issues, and the Atal Setu bridge is also facing issues. Wherever the PM goes, there is a problem. The PM has ruined the economy, and increased the unemployment in the country also."

The collapse of the statue has turned into a political issue after Shiva Sena (UTB) leader Aaditya Thackeray pulled down the BJP over the incident by linking it to Shivaji's pride.

Earlier today, in a statement posted on X, Thackeray said, "It is unimaginable that the statue of our deity, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, would also be a subject of the BJP's corruption."

Thackeray also slammed the BJP for allegedly blaming the Indian Navy.

"Here too, a favoured contractor friend. Here too, terrible quality of work. Here too, is an inauguration keeping in mind the elections, not the sentiment. And then, the usual trolls and shameless politicians trying to blame the Indian Navy," Thackeray added in the post.

The 35-foot statue was inaugurated in December 2023 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Navy Day. (ANI)
