Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday visited Silchar Medical College and Hospital and dedicated a 20-bed cardiology ICU to patient care.

This visit is part of the Chief Minister's final day of a three-day tour of Barak Valley. During his visit, he not only inaugurated the Cardiology ICU but also reviewed the progress of the construction of a 535-bed emergency building. This new structure will serve as an annex to the existing hospital facilities, stated a release from the CMO.

The completion of the new emergency building, expected to be inaugurated in November next year, will increase the hospital's total bed capacity to approximately 1,885 from the current 1,350, including ICU beds.

Chief Minister Sarma also assessed the planned facilities in the new building, where five departments will be relocated to improve patient care including critical and emergency.

He also announced plans for another building to be constructed in the premises of Silchar Medical College and Hospital with a 1000 bed capacity, as per the release.

Additionally, the Chief Minister evaluated the hospital's ancillary services, including staff vacancies, considering the needs for the next 10 years. He further directed PWD (Building) officials to prepare a master plan for the hospital's future expansion.

Guardian Minister in charge of Cachar Jayanta Mallabaruah, MP Parimal Suklabaidya, MLAs Kaushik Rai, Dipayan Chakraborty, Principal Silchar Medical College and Hospital Dr Bhaskar Gupta, and other senior officers of the government were present at the meeting. (ANI)
