Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader Harish Rao Thanneeru hit out at the Congress-led state government in Telangana on Thursday, alleging that the state government has not fulfilled the promises of loan waivers to farmers.

"Before the assembly elections, the Revanth Reddy government promised to waive off loans of Rs 2 lakh to farmers. They promised to waive off loans on 9 December. But they did not waive them off," said the BRS leader.

Further criticising the state government, Harish Rao mentioned that the original promise of a Rs 2 Lakh farm loan waiver was told by the Congress party in the parliamentary elections also, where the government promised to waive off the loans by August 15. "Later, in the parliamentary elections, they went to every district and promised to waive off loans by the 15th of August. They looted the votes of farmers in the parliamentary elections as well," said Thanneeru. The leader also alleged that not even half of the farmers have received the benefits of the loan waivers.

Earlier, while speaking at a press meet at Telangana Bhavan in Hyderabad, BRS Working President KT Rama Rao also alleged that that the state government is blatantly cheating farmers under the pretext of loan waivers. He questioned the alleged discrepancies in statements made by the Chief Minister and his ministers regarding the status of the loan waiver.

The BRS leader additionally highlighted that despite the government's claim of completing the loan waiver process, farmers are still protesting across the state, indicating the scheme's failure. He criticized the government for filing non-bailable cases against farmers in the Adilabad district who protested the incomplete loan waiver, questioning whether demanding a loan waiver has now become a criminal offence.

KTR also demanded the withdrawal of cases against the protesting farmers. He concluded the press conference by challenging the government to fulfil its promises without any further delays and to stop the harassment of farmers under various pretexts. (ANI)
