The Supreme Court Collegium on Wednesday recommended the appointment of three advocates as judges of Delhi High Court.

The Collegium consisting of Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud and Justices Sanjiv Khanna and BR Gavai recommended advocates Ajay Digpaul, Harish Vaidyanathan Shankar, and Shwetasree Majumder.

The Collegium, after consultation with the acting Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court, Justice Manmohan, found the advocates fit and suitable to hold the position of High Court judges.

The resolution issued by the Collegium stated that for the purpose of assessing the merit and suitability of these advocates for elevation to the High Court, it has scrutinised and evaluated the material placed on record.

We have also perused the observations made by the Department of Justice in the file, it added.

"Bearing in mind all the relevant facts and circumstances, the Collegium is of the considered view that the candidate is fit and suitable for appointment as a judge of the High Court," stated the resolution issued by the Collegium.

The resolution further added, "In view of the above, the Collegium resolves to recommend that Ajay Digpaul, Harish Vaidyanathan Shankar, and Shwetasree Majumder, advocates, be appointed as Judges of the High Court of Delhi. Their inter se seniority be fixed as per the existing practice." (ANI)
