Union Minister Sonowal celebrates Raksha Bandhan with ministry employees

Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal celebrated the pious festival of Raksha Bandhan with the female staff members in the office of the Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways on Monday.

The female staff of the ministry tied Rakhis to the wrist of the Union Minister on the festive occasion.

As per the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, "Besides the officials of the ministry, other employees from Sagarmala Development Company Limited, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), the Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI), and young professionals working with the ministry also tied Rakhi to Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal.

The Union Minister expressed his happiness to be sharing this beautiful bond of brother and sister and the celebration as one family.

One of the employees who tied Sonowal the Rakhi said that this is a wonderful gesture and could be extended to all departments as well. Another employee said that it was a blessed moment as she could find a brother in the minister to tie the Rakhi since her own brother is abroad.

Sarbananda Sonowal expressed his gratitude to everyone and extended his best wishes to everyone on Raksha Bandhan. Sonowal said that this further strengthens the bond within the Ministry to become and act as one family.

Earlier in the day, taking to his social media handle on X, the Union Minister posted greetings for the festival, "Wishing everyone a joyous Raksha Bandhan! May the auspicious occasion strengthen the everlasting bond of love and protection between brothers and sisters."

Prime Minister Narendra Modi greeted people on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan and prayed for everyone's happiness and prosperity."Best wishes to all countrymen on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan, a festival symbolising the immense love between brother and sister. May this holy festival bring new sweetness to the relationships of all of you and happiness, prosperity and good fortune in life," PM Modi posted on X.

President Droupadi Murmu also extended greetings on the festival that celebrates the bond between siblings.

In a post on X, President Droupadi Murmu said, "On the auspicious occasion of Raksha Bandhan, I extend my heartfelt greetings and best wishes to all the countrymen. This festival, based on the feeling of love and mutual trust between brothers and sisters, instills a feeling of affection and respect towards all sisters and daughters."

Raksha Bandhan, commonly known as Rakhi, is celebrated today as a traditional Hindu festival dedicated to the love and bond between brothers and sisters.On this day, sisters tie a rakhi around their brothers' wrists. In return, brothers offer gifts as a symbol of love and care for their sisters.

Raksha Bandhan is a festival deeply rooted in Indian culture and has been celebrated for centuries. Incidents of sisters tying rakhi around their brothers' wrists for protection are mentioned in Hindu religious texts. (ANI)
