The medical fraternity and artists across the country continue to protest against the alleged rape and murder of a postgraduate trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.

Doctors from the Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College of Aligarh Muslim University in Uttar Pradesh held a candle march on Saturday, raising slogans and banners demanding strict action against the culprits.

The participating doctors emphasised their demand for justice, condemning the brutal rape and murder of their colleague, and calling for the perpetrators to be apprehended and given the harshest punishment.

In Odisha, the Odisha Nursing Employees Association of Sahid Laxman Nayak Medical College and Hospital also organised a candle march on Saturday, where both nurses and doctors strongly protested the crime against the female doctor at RG Kar in Kolkata.

Theatre artists from West Bengal joined the protests by taking to the streets at midnight on Saturday, staging a march against the rape and murder of the trainee doctor.

Earlier on Saturday, following the Indian Medical Association's (IMA) call for a nationwide strike over the incident, doctors at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi staged a protest march on campus, holding posters and raising slogans such as "We want justice."

Doctors in Maharashtra also held protests on Saturday, demanding justice for the postgraduate trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata.

At AIIMS Mangalagiri, junior doctors and medical students likewise protested on Saturday against the rape and murder incident at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.

On August 9, a postgraduate trainee doctor was found dead in the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata, sparking nationwide protests by doctors and medical professionals.

On August 14, a mob entered the RG Kar Hospital campus, vandalising the protest site, vehicles, and public property, forcing security officials to disperse the crowd. (ANI)
