Flag hoisting, weapon exhibition, cultural events mark BSF's I-Day celebrations in Shillong

On the occasion of Independence Day, the Inspector General of Border Security Forces (BSF), Harbax Singh Dhillon, hoisted the flag at the frontier headquarters in Umpling, Shillong, on Thursday.

Celebrating the occasion with great enthusiasm, the BSF personnel deployed at the border also hoisted the national flag.

Additionally, a weapon exhibition was organised for the local students and sweets were also distributed to the personnel deployed at the border with Bangladesh, fostering a spirit of camaraderie and mutual respect.

Adding to the patriotic fervour, students from BSF Schools presented a series of cultural programmes that highlighted the rich cultural heritage and unity of the nation.

Addressing the gathering on the occasion, Inspector General Harbax Singh Dhillon extended his heartfelt wishes.

He encouraged the students to uphold national values and strive to become responsible citizens of India. He also conveyed his greetings to the people of Meghalaya, all force members and their families.

Earlier yesterday, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) organised a 'Tiranga Yatra' in Shillong as part of the 'Har Ghar Tiranga' campaign.

CRPF personnel marched through the streets, waving the tricolour and singing patriotic songs in anticipation of the Independence Day celebrations.

The 'Tiranga Yatra' is part of the 'Har Ghar Tiranga Abhiyan,' launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to instill a sense of nationalism by encouraging citizens to display the national flag at their homes.

The Army Training Command (ARTRAC) also flagged off a Tiranga bike rally in Shimla, as part of the 'Har Ghar Tiranga' initiative.In Krishnanagar, West Bengal, the Border Security Force (BSF) organised a 'Har Ghar Tiranga' bike rally.

Speaking on the occasion, BSF DIG Sanjay Kumar in Krishnanagar told ANI, "We want every citizen to feel proud of their country and hoist the national flag at their homes. We are distributing flags to everyone and sending out a message of unity in diversity to our neighbouring countries. We want to see 'Har Ghar Tiranga' on August 15." (ANI)
