Betul (Madhya Pradesh) | August 9, 2024 7:11:30 PM IST
Team of Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) and Indian Air Force were called after around 10-12 bomb shells were found at a scrap shop in Madhya Pradesh's Betul district on Friday, an official said.

The scrap shop is located at Khanjanpur locality under Kotwali police station limits in the district. The shells were found during searches conducted by police because of Independence Day and CM Mohan Yadav's visit to the district, the officer added.

"The senior official had instructed all the police station in-charges to conduct intensive checking in their area in view of Independence Day and CM's visit to Betul district. In continuation of that, Kotwali police station during the search on Friday found some 10-12 shells from the scrap shop of Naeem Qureshi," said Kamla Joshi, Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP).

As of now, it is difficult to say whether they are live shells or defused. A BDDS team from Narmadapuram and an Air Force team Alma Station in Betul have been informed and called. Further action will be taken after the expert analyses them, she said.

Scrap dealer Naeem Qureshi said, "My son used to buy the scraps from the people. He did not understand what was in the sack and bought the item from two persons, residents of Indira Colony, considering iron pieces as they often bring iron items. So my son picked up the sack and kept it as it was and he did not even know what was inside it. Now, it is being said that bomb shells have been found in it. When the police checked, we came to know about it."

Nonetheless, as a precautionary measure, the police have vacated the nearby houses and blocked the road. (ANI)
