Acting on a tip-off about suspected illegal activities at Agartala Railway Station, the local law enforcement agencies and Border Security Force on Thursday conducted a joint operation arresting 10 individuals including eight Bangladeshi nationals.

The operation was conducted in response to the reports of cross-border human trafficking activities.

The individuals were intercepted as they were preparing to board a train, allegedly for illegal movement across the India-Bangladesh border. Law enforcement officials are currently investigating the extent of the network involved and the specific charges to be levied against the suspects, said officials.

The Bangladeshi nationals who were arrested are identified as Sahadat Hossain (28), Trisha Akther (19), Shapla Akther (22), Raju Ahammed (21), Sahalam (31), Sukurdi Shek (38), Md. Biplab (19), Karim Shek (35) and the remaining two arrested persons are Ratan Paul (55) and Sukla Sarkar (28).

The arrested individuals are being held in custody at the local police station for further questioning. Authorities have also indicated that they will be coordinating with Bangladeshi officials to ascertain the full details of the case and to potentially repatriate the Bangladeshi nationals.

This operation highlights the ongoing efforts by security forces to curb illegal cross-border activities and human trafficking in the region. Further details are expected to emerge as the investigation progresses. (ANI)
