CBI arrests NBCC Ltd. DGM Varun Popli for allegedly demanding and accepting bribe

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a DGM of NBCC Ltd. while allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe. The arrested accused has been identified as Varun Popli, DGM in NBCC Ltd.

The complainant, who is executing a construction project at Leh, had submitted a written complaint against the DGM, alleging therein that the said DGM was demanding an undue advantage of Rs 7.40 lakh for allowing a contract item.

During verification of the complaint, the accused DGM demanded a higher undue advantage of Rs 11.40 lakh. As such, the CBI registered a case against the accused.

A trap was laid by the CBI and the said DGM of NBCC Ltd. was allegedly caught red-handed while demanding and accepting an undue advantage of Rs 5 lakh as against the demanded amount of Rs 11.40 lakh.

The accused DGM was arrested and would be produced before the Court of Competent Jurisdiction in Delhi on Thursday. A search operation was carried out at the residential premises of the accused in Delhi.

Further investigation into the matter is underway. More details are awaited. (ANI)
