Punjab Governor Banwarilal Purohit said on Friday that there is now better coordination among Indian security forces to ward off security threats emanating from Pakistan.

The governor said that since Pakistan is not in a position to engage in a direct fight with India, it always tries to backstab India.

"Pakistan cannot fight us directly; therefore, it always backstabs. Earlier, there was a lack of coordination. People were scared. But now coordination has been established between the BSF, Army, NIA, NCRB, IB, Army Intelligence, and Police, which has been beneficial," Purohit told reporters here.

Purohit's comments came on a day when India celebrates Kargil Vijay Diwas.

Kargil Vijay Diwas, observed annually on July 26, commemorates the success of Operation Vijay in 1999. During this operation, Indian forces successfully reclaimed strategic positions in the Kargil sector of Jammu and Kashmir that had been infiltrated by Pakistani soldiers and terrorists.

Reacting to questions related to his stand-off with the Aam Aadmi Party government in the state, Purohit said that it is his responsibility to ask the government to do the work that has not been done. He added that there is no need for Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to be scared of him.

"There is no need for the CM (Bhagwant Mann) to be scared of me. I give time to every party that comes to me. Why should the Governor be a problem for anybody... I will definitely ask them to do the work that has not been done. It is my responsibility," Purohit said.

Earlier this month, President Droupadi Murmu refused to clear a Punjab government bill seeking the removal of Governor Banwarilal Purohit as the Chancellor of state-run universities. After the refusal, the state government said it will seek legal options.

There have been many instances where the governor and the AAP government were at loggerheads. The AAP government has alleged that the governor unnecessarily interfered in governance at the behest of the BJP-led central government. (ANI)
