Congress members and leaders paid tribute to former Delhi Chief Minister and Congress leader Sheila Dikshit on her death anniversary at her residence in Delhi.

Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit also paid tribute to his late mother on her death anniversary on Saturday and said that Sheila Dikshit made Delhi a wonderful city that touched new heights of development and that soon after her demise, the national capital deteriorated.

The Congress leader said that Sheila Dikshit demonstrated to us how a government of "lokniti," or public policy, is built in addition to "rajniti," or politics.

Speaking to the media here on Saturday, Sandeep Dikshit said, "It is my mother's death anniversary, so it is natural that, being a son, I remember her. However, more than that, Delhi is remembering her now. She made Delhi a wonderful city that touched new heights of development. Unfortunately, after her demise, the way Delhi has deteriorated."

"I would wish that whoever leads Delhi should at least learn from her how to make a city better and how a government works for the people. Sheila Ji showed us how a government of 'lokniti' (public policy), not only 'rajniti' (politics), is formed," he said.

Earlier in the day, Congress members and leaders paid flower tributes to former Delhi CM and late Congress leader Sheila Dikshit at her residence in Delhi.

Congress veteran Sheila Dikshit, credited with transforming Delhi into a modern, contemporary city during her three terms as its chief minister, died on July 20, 2019, after a cardiac arrest.

Many political figures recalled her contribution to Delhi, where she is credited with bringing the metro railway network and turning it into the city's lifeline, as well as the flyovers and underpasses that came with it.

Dikshit was admitted to Fortis Escorts Heart Institute on July 19, 2019 for cardiac arrhythmia and was put on a ventilator within a few moments of her admission.

Her condition stabilised temporarily, however, she did not recover from multiple cardiac arrests and her condition worsened during the following period. She later died on July 20, 2019, at the age of 81. (ANI)
