Himachal Pradesh: Orange alert issued in 8 districts; flash flood warning for four districts after incessant rainfall

The IMD issued an orange alert for 8 districts and a flash flood warning for four districts in Himachal Pradesh on Friday due to continuous rainfall in the last 24 hours. A yellow alert has been issued in most parts of the state on Saturday.

IMD Senior scientist Sandeep Kumar Sharma said, "In the last 24 hours, in most parts of the state light to moderate rainfall has been recorded. In few stations, like Palampur, Kataula Mandi very heavy rainfall has been recorded. In Kullu and Solan light to moderate rainfall has been recorded. Today orange alert has been issued in Kangra, Chamba, Una, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Solan, Sirmaur and Shimla. For tomorrow, yellow alert has been issued in most parts of the states."

He further said that from July 8 onwards, there will be reduction in the intensity of rainfall.

He further said, "Overall, there is 30 percent less rainfall. In Mandi, Shimla and Solan the rainfall is normal. In July rainfall is recorded 60 percent more than normal. Rainfall is less than normal only in Lahaul and Spiti, Sirmaur. A flash flood warning has been issued in four districts, Mandi, Kullu, Solan, Sirmaur due to continuous rainfall in the last 24 hours. In Shimla, Solan, Sirmaur for the next two to three days fog conditions will prevail."

Earlier, Governor of Himachal Pradesh, Shiv Pratap Shukla, flagged off a vehicle carrying relief material for Kullu on Friday ahead of the monsoon flood and rain.

The truck sent from Raj Bhawan, comprising blankets, kitchen sets, hygiene kits and tarpaulins will be used by the district administration for disaster-hit areas.

Speaking to the media, the governor said that he has alerted everyone concerned that the Raj Bhawan and the state government is well prepared for any disaster-related problems arising due to monsoon rains.

Shiv Pratap Shukla, the governor of Himachal Pradesh, said, "Last year also, there was a disaster, and we had to send relief material again and again. This year, through the Red Cross, we have tried to ensure that relief material is provided before any disaster so that it can be used at the right time. I shall send the material to the places where it is needed and today for the first time, we have sent one vehicle. last year, we sent six vehicles of relief material." (ANI)
