Bharatiya Janata Party leader Kirodi Lal Meena on Thursday tendered his resignation as a minister after the BJP failed to retain the Dausa Lok Sabha seat in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

Meena took the onus of the party's loss from the Dausa Lok Sabha seat, and emphasized that his decision was driven by a 'moral obligation'.

"I don't have anything against the Chief Minister or the party. You know that the field in which I worked for 40 years, and once there was such a situation that I had to give up the ministerial post. I announced that if I won't be able to make my party win, I'll resign, and I have done that. It is my moral duty to resign if my party does not win. I met the CM as well, and he rejected my resignation, but still, I sent my resignation by post. I will go to Delhi tomorrow."

Expressing loyalty to the BJP, Meena reassured the party high command of his steadfast support.

"I had sent my resignation to the Chief Minister on June 5. I will come to the State Assembly as a legislator. I have left all the government resources. For 1.5 months, I am staying at my residence. When I have tendered my resignation, it is my moral responsibility to give up all resources. I want to tell the party high command that I will always stand by it. I have been given the responsibility of Dausa so I will definitely fulfil the requirements of the party".

In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections in Rajasthan, the Bharatiya Janata Party won 14 out of 25 seats while the Congress won eight seats.

The Congress party's Murari Lal Meena secured the Dausa Lok Sabha seat with 646,266 votes, defeating BJP's Kanhaiya Lal Meena who garnered 408,926 votes. (ANI)
