Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge on Wednesday said that opposition MPs staged a walkout from Rajya Sabha as Prime Minister Narendra Modi was lying and asserted that the BJP-RSS, Jan Sangh, and their "political forefathers" had strongly opposed the Indian Constitution.

The opposition MPs of the INDIA bloc staged a walkout as the Prime Minister was replying to the debate on the 'Motion of Thanks' on the President's address in the Rajya Sabha.

"INDIA Parties walked out of Rajya Sabha because PM Modi was lying. He claims that we are against the Constitution, but the TRUTH is that BJP-RSS, Jansangh and their political forefathers had fiercely opposed the Constitution of India. They had burnt the effigies of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar and Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru at that time. This is was a shameful thing and an affront to Democratic values," Kharge posted on X.

"The truth is that Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar had given the credit of drafting the Constitution to the Congress party," he added.

"I had to emphasise these two things to the People of India through the Rajya Sabha. The Organiser (November 30, 1949, page 3), the organ of RSS, gave vent to its ideas regarding Manusmriti: 'in our constitution, there is no mention of the unique constitutional developments in ancient Bharat. Manu's laws were written long before Lycurgus of Sparta or Solon of Persia. To this day laws as enunciated in the Manusmriti excite the admiration of the world and elicit spontaneous obedience and conformity. But to our constitutional pundits (read Ambedkar) that means nothing.' 'Dr. B.R. Ambedkar's Concluding remarks in the Constituent Assembly on Constitution on November 25, 1949, "I was therefore greatly surprised when the Assembly elected me to the Drafting Committee. I was more than surprised when the Drafting Committee elected me to be its Chairman. There were in the Drafting Committee men bigger, better and more competent than myself......It is because of the discipline of the Congress Party that the Drafting Committee was able to pilot the Constitution in the Assembly with sure knowledge as to the fate of each article and each amendment. The Congress Party is, therefore, entitled to all the credit for the smooth sailing of the Draft Constitution in the Assembly," he posted on X.

Former Rajasthan Chief Minister and Congress leader Ashok Gehlot lashed out at PM Modi said that the words used by the Prime Minister for Congress Rahul Gandhi showed his frustration

"The words used by Prime Minister Narendra Modi yesterday for the Leader of Opposition RahulGandhi are indicative of his frustration. It seems that the Prime Minister is neither concerned about his position nor the dignity of the House. The public has come to know about his frustration and hence he is not being taken seriously," Gehlot posted on X.

PM Modi made a strong attack on the Congress and took "balak budhi" and "tumse na ho payega" jibe at its leader Rahul Gandhi in Lok Sabha on Tuesday and accused him of "linking Hindus with violence".

Addressing reporters after the walkout, Mallikarjun Kharge lashed out against the Prime Minister.

"It's his habit to lie, mislead people and say things beyond truth. I have just asked him that, when he was speaking about the Constitution, you didn't make the Constitution, you people were against it," Kharge said.

He further said, "I just wanted to clarify who was for the Constitution and who was against it. RSS wrote in their editorial in 1950 that the bad thing about the Constitution is that there is nothing about India's history. They opposed the Constitution. They have been against it since the beginning and they say that they are for it. Effigies of Ambedkar, Nehru were burnt. Now they are saying that we are against it."

Those who walked out with Kharge during the PM's reply on the Motion of Thanks on the President's Address included Congress leader Sonia Gandhi and NCP-SCP chief Sharad Pawar. (ANI)
