Hathras stampede: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister says judicial inquiry initiated

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday said a judicial inquiry headed by a retired High Court judge will be initiated in the stampede incident in Hathras in Uttar Pradesh. He also vowed to punish those responsible.

Chief Minister Adityanath visited Hathras and met with those who were injured and the kin of the deceased in the stampede on Tuesday.

He visited the Hathras District Hospital and inquired about the condition of the people injured in the mishap and instructed doctors to provide proper treatment to all the injured.

Additionally, he also visited the site of the stampede and took details of the incident. As many as 121 people were killed in the incident and an FIR under sections of the Bhartiya Nyay Sanhita has been registered against one Devprakash Madhukar and other unidentified organisers of the Satsang programme, held in Sikandara Rao in Hathras.

Taking immediate action, Yogi immediately despatched a team of three ministers and the Chief Secretary and DGP to Hathras.

The chief minister also appointed Additional DG Agra and Divisional Commissioner Aligarh to investigate the incident and directed him to submit the report within 24 hours.

The CM has announced financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh each to the families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 each to the injured.

The eyewitness to the incident and the woman constable posted on duty narrated the entire incident to the Chief Minister.

She said that after the stampede, people kept falling on each other. A large number of women became victims of the stampede. She wanted to get up but could not because women kept falling on her one after the other.

The three ministers- Chief Secretary, DGP and local MLA were also present at the site CM Yogi. (ANI)
