A 30-year-old man was arrested in Sivaganga on charges of illegal possession of explosive materials in a house, Sivaganga district police saidon Monday.

The accused, identified as S Aravindhan from Arasaneri Keelamedu, was taken into custody on Saturday evening after the explosives stored in an old motor room detonated due to the hot weather, police said

The blast caused partial damage to the room, prompting the Sivaganga Town police to investigate the incident following a tip-off from the public.

The police conducted inquiries and subsequently filed a case against the accused under The Explosives Act. He was remanded to judicial custody.

The probe is on whether the accused had stocked explosives and planned to make country bombs. Samples were collected from the site and sent for forensic examination. The blast had occurred due to severe heat in the area, police said. (ANI)
