PM Modi condoles demise of veteran Congress leader D Srinivas

After veteran Congress leader D Srinivas Garu passed away on Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences and said that the former MP will be remembered for his long years in public service.

Taking to their official X handle, the PMO India quoted Narendra Modi and posted, "Saddened by the passing away of former MP D. Srinivas Garu. He will be remembered for his long years in public service and efforts to empower the poor."

The post added further, "My thoughts are with his family and supporters in this hour of grief."

Srinivas, a three-time MLA from Nizamabad (rural) served as a two-time president of the Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee. He led the party to power in the 2004 and 2009 elections in the undivided state of Andhra Pradesh. After the bifurcation into two states Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, Srinivas resigned from the Congress party and joined the BRS in July 2015.

Srinivas had been suffering from illness for some time and breathed his last due to a heart attack at 3 am on Saturday in Hyderabad. He was 76.

Srinivas has served as Minister, MP and PCC president in the erstwhile AP. He is survived by his two sons. His second son, Dharmapuri Arvind, is currently the MP of Nizamabad. His elder son Sanjay has previously served as the Mayor of Nizamabad.

Meanwhile, former Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu on Saturday paid tribute to Dharmapuri Srinivas.

Speaking to ANI, Naidu said, "A senior politician, former Congress president, former minister who held important portfolios and above all, a gentle, humble human being who was always available to the people, used to spend time with the people... I convey my condolences to the family members."

Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, Union Minister G Kishan Reddy, Telangana ministers, and senior leaders of the Congress party expressed condolences over his demise.

Apart from that, Telangana Minister of Roads and Buildings and Cinematography Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, Congress Senior Leader V Hanumanth Rao and Rajya Sabha MP Keshava Rao paid their last respects. (ANI)
