Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena has approved the creation of a new police station at Bijwasan Railway Station. The new police station has been created after the realignment of the existing boundaries of police station at Delhi Cantt. Railway Station, the LG office said in a press release.

At present, there are 13 Railway Stations under the jurisdiction of the Police Station 'Delhi Cantt Railway Station'. However, after the creation of the new Police Station at Bijwasan Railway Station, out of 13 Railway Stations, 3 Railway Stations, i.e. Palam, Shahbad Mohammadpur, and Bijwasan, having a total length of about 9 km will come under its jurisdiction. Both Railway Police Stations i.e. Delhi Cantt. and Bijwasan will function under the Sub-division Old Delhi Railway Station.

The creation of the new Police Station apart from strengthening Security and effective management of law and order, will cater to approx. 1.5 lakh population living in the area.

Bijwasan Railway Station is expected to become functional very soon as its construction is in full swing. Once fully operational, it will emerge as a mega terminal station. This Railway Station being close to IGI Airport and many long-distance trains will originate and terminate from there. This will require effective Policing in order to provide security to the Railway Stations as well as passengers.

The manpower and other resources required for the proposed Railway Police Station shall be met from the existing resources of Delhi Police. (ANI)
