BJP leader Giriraj Singh sworn in as Union Minister in PM Modi-led NDA government

Bharatiya Janata Party leader Giriraj Singh took oath as Union Minister in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's cabinet on Sunday.

PM Modi took oath as Prime Minister of the country for the third consecutive term on Sunday.

Giriraj Singh handled key portfolios in previous BJP governments.

Giriraj Singh was born on September 8, 1952, and is known for his dynamic presence in politics. From 2008 to 2010, Singh was a Cooperative Minister in Bihar government.

Singh was a Member of the Bihar Legislative Council from 2002 to May 2014.

He was Cabinet Minister, Animal Husbandry and Fisheries Resources Development, Government of Bihar from 2010 to 2013.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, Singh defeated Kanhaiya Kumar, by over four lakh votes.

In 2019, following the BJP's decisive victory in the general elections, the Begusarai MP was appointed as the Union Minister of Animal Husbandry, Dairying, and Fisheries in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's cabinet.

In July 2021, he became Minister of Rural Development and Minister of Panchayati Raj in the Second Modi Ministry after the Cabinet reshuffle replacing Narendra Singh Tomar.

In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Giriraj Singh who bagged a Lok Sabha election victory from Bihar's Begusari won the elections with 81480 votes. Singh defeated Communist Party of India leader Abdesh Kumar Roy.

Prior to him, Narendra Modi took oath as Prime Minister of India for his third successive term at an impressive ceremony at the Rashtrapati Bhavan. Several other ministers were also sworn into PM Modi's cabinet.

President Droupadi Murmu administered the oath of office to Narendra Modi, followed by other members of his team of ministers.

The Bharatiya Janata Party-led NDA secured 293 seats in the Lok Sabha elections. BJP won 240 seats on its own. In the 543-strong lower house of the Indian parliament, 272 is the minimum majority figure. (ANI)
