Odisha: CEO seeks report from Collector regarding allegations against BJD candidate Sushant Behera of thrashing voters

The Chief Electoral Officer, Odisha has sought action taken report from Angul DEO and Collector within 24 hours regarding BJD Chhendipada MLA and candidate, Sushant Kumar Behera.

BJD Chhendipada MLA candidate Susanta Behera is accused of thrashing voters including BJP workers at booth no-84 at Simili Sahi in Kosala panchayat in Angul district, during sixth phase Lok Sabha and third round of Odisha Assembly elections on May 25th.

"...I am, directed to forward herewith a copy of the complaint petition... dated. 25.05.2024 of Sri Jayanta Kumar Jena, BJP Legal Cell along with the copy of the Video Graphic evidence against Sri Sushanta Kumar Behera, MLA. Chhendipada for allegedly attacking the voters in Booth No. 84 in Simili Sahi through e-mail, which is self-explanatory," said a letter from the office of the Chief Electoral Officer, Odisha.

"It is, therefore, requested to enquire into the allegations made therein and take necessary action in the matter. The action taken report may please be submitted within 24 hrs to this office," it added.

Apart from that, the Odisha police, on Sunday arrested Prashant Jagdev, the BJP MLA from Chilika assembly constituency, on charges of allegedly toppling an electronic voting machine (EVM) and assaulting two polling personnel during Saturday's polling.

BJP leader Prasanta Kumar Jagadev has been fielded from Khurda Lok Sabha constituency against BJD leader Rajendra Kumar Sahu.

Forty-two assembly constituencies in Odisha went to polls in Odisha on Saturday. Assembly elections are being held in the state simultaneously with the Lok Sabha elections in the state. The counting of votes will be held on June 4.

The 2024 Indian general election in Odisha is being held in four phases to elect 21 members of 18th Lok Sabha. In the last assembly elections in 2019, the BJD won 112 out of 146 seats. BJP won 23 seats and Congress got nine seats. (ANI)
